January 6, 2025 - AUBURN, Ala. - University of South Florida Quarterback Byrum Brown has signed with Auburn Tigers football team, following former USF head coach Alex Golesh to the Plains.
Brown led all FBS quarterbacks in 2025 with 42 total touchdowns while averaging 347.2 yards of offense per game. The 6-foot-3, 232-pound senior from Raleigh, North Carolina, dominated defenses through the air and on the ground in Golesh's high-powered attack.
"Byrum is a true leader and competitor," Golesh said. "He's process-driven in everything he does. What makes him special is how he elevates everyone around him. He makes guys compete at a higher level every single day and demands greatness from himself and his teammates. I'm so excited to see him at Auburn. He loves our offense and system, and honestly, I couldn't be more thrilled that he's joining us here."
Brown completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,158 yards with 28 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. Brown also rushed for 1,008 yards with 14 touchdowns and posted at least 100 rushing yards in six different games. During four seasons at USF, Brown totaled 7,690 passing yards with 61 touchdowns while adding 2,265 rushing yards and 31 scores on the ground.
In 2023 Brown became the only FBS or NFL player in the last 30 seasons to have five consecutive games with 200-plus passing yards, 80-plus rushing yards, and at least one rushing touchdown. He is just one of twelve players in NCAA history with both 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in the same season.
Brown's 2025 season campaign earned him national recognition including being named a Davey O'Brien Award Semifinalist and earned spots on multiple national award watch lists. Brown was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, earned four Davey O'Brien "Great 8" honors, and was recognized twice as Manning Award Star of the Week.
Brown excelled on the athletics field and in the classroom. He already has earned his degree in Health Sciences at USF finishing with a 3.77 GPA. He was selected as a 2025 Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete. Presumably at Auburn he will be working on a masters degree.
Brown is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina where he attended Rolesville High School in Raleigh.
Brown is the ninth USF players to join Golesh at Auburn.
Brown and the other USF players (particularly on offense) know Golesh's system which should help reduce the learning curve.
Auburn's current quarterback room has been completely rebuilt. Brown from USF is the likely starter. He joins freshmen Rhys Brush. Brush is a consensus 3-star prospect from Seffner, Florida, where he starred at Armwood High School. Auburn also has Locklan Hewlitt (another transfer from USF). Auburn lost quarterbacks Jackson Arnold, Ashton Daniels, and Deuce Knight to the transfer portal. This is the second year in a row that the entire quarterback room left at Auburn. There is speculation that Auburn may add a fourth quarterback from the transfer portal to add depth to the quarterback room.
