Shelby County GOP Cancels U.S. Senate Forum Due to Re‑Freezing Concerns

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. - The Shelby County Republican Party has canceled its U.S. Senate Forum scheduled for Monday, January 26, citing expected re‑freezing conditions and potential roadway hazards across the region.

Party officials said the decision was made out of caution as temperatures are forecast to drop again Monday evening, raising concerns about icy roads and unsafe travel conditions.

Chairman Joan Reynolds said she has been in close communication with emergency management officials as the weather situation developed.

"I have been closely monitoring the weather and have talked with EMA. Due to the re-freezing conditions expected tomorrow evening, we have made the decision to cancel the U.S. Senate Forum scheduled for Monday, January 26, and plan to reschedule at a later date," Reynolds said. "Many roads have already been closed in the Huntsville area. The safety of our citizens, especially those who will be traveling, is always our top priority."

The party plans to announce a new date for the forum once conditions improve.

Organizers thanked local media and community partners for helping share the cancellation and encouraged anyone needing additional information to reach out.
