WASHINGTON, D.C. - As the nation prepares to observe National Sanctity of Human Life Day on January 22, 2026, thousands of pro-life advocates are gathering in Washington this week for a series of events commemorating unborn lives and highlighting the ongoing work of the pro-life movement. The week's activities include the 53rd annual March for Life Rally and Faith & Liberty's "America 250 Remembers - Remembering Victims of Roe" memorial and prayer vigil.
March for Life Returns to the National Mall
The March for Life Rally, one of the largest annual human rights gatherings in the world, will take place Friday, January 23. Established in response to the U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, the march has long served as a national demonstration advocating for the protection of unborn children and their mothers.
This year's rally begins at 11 a.m. on the National Mall, followed by the traditional march to Capitol Hill at approximately 1 p.m. Tens of thousands are expected to attend, marking the fourth March for Life held since the Supreme Court overturned Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey on June 24, 2022.
The 2026 theme, "Life is a Gift," underscores what organizers describe as the movement's core conviction: that every human life possesses inherent goodness and deserves protection "no matter the circumstances." March for Life leaders say they hope participants will "rediscover the beauty, goodness, and joy of life itself."
Liberty Counsel Vice President of Governmental Affairs Jonathan Alexandre and other members of the Liberty Counsel team will join the march.
National Leaders and Advocates to Address the Rally
This year's program features a prominent lineup of speakers, including:
- Vice President J.D. Vance
- Speaker of the House Mike Johnson
- Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ)
- Cissie Graham Lynch, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse
- Jennie Bradley Lichter, President of March for Life
The Friends of Club 21 Choir - a group of young adults with Down syndrome - will perform the National Anthem. The rally's concert will feature the Grammy-nominated, Dove Award–winning Christian band Sanctus Real.
Faith & Liberty Hosts Memorial Honoring Victims of Roe
On Thursday, January 22, Faith & Liberty will hold its annual memorial event, "America 250 Remembers - Remembering Victims of Roe," from noon to 1 p.m. on the west side of the U.S. Supreme Court.
The ceremony includes the placement of 3,000 red, white, and blue flowers along the sidewalk - symbolizing the approximate number of unborn children lost to abortion each day in the United States. This year's color theme reflects the upcoming 250th anniversary of America's founding.
Speakers and Scripture readings will highlight the history of the pro-life movement, the decades-long legal battle leading to the overturning of Roe, and the Founders' views on the sanctity of life as expressed in the Declaration of Independence.
Scheduled speakers include:
- Rev. Gregory Cox, Liberty Counsel Vice President of Strategic Partnerships
- Peggy Nienaber, Faith & Liberty Senior Vice President
- Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA)
- Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL)
A Continuing Call to Action
Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver emphasized that the post-Roe era has not ended the need for advocacy.
"New life is a true and extraordinary gift bearing inherent dignity and value that transcends laws," Staver said. "Even with the overturn of Roe and Casey, about one million unborn babies are still lost to abortion every year. That means the battle to protect unborn children is far from over."
Staver urged continued engagement at the state level, saying the nation's compassion is reflected in how it protects "the smallest, most vulnerable, and entirely dependent."
