President Trump endorses Barry Moore for Senate

January 18, 2026- WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump (R) completely reset the Senate race in Alabama when he endorsed Congressman Barry Moore (R-01) for the open Senate seat currently held by Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama).

Moore was already considered to be the most conservative candidate in the field – he is the most conservative of the five Alabama Congressman. The Trump endorsement shows that he has the confidence of the President.

"Congressman Barry Moore, an America First Patriot who has been with me from the very beginning (he was the first Elected Official in the Country to Endorse me!), is running for the United States Senate in Alabama, a place I love and WON BIG in 2016, 2020, and 2024, getting the highest vote in that great State's history," said President Trump on his Truth Social account. "A very successful Businessman, Civic Leader, and Highly Respected State Legislator prior to becoming a distinguished Congressman, Barry has dedicated his life to serving his Community. As your next Senator, Barry will continue to fight tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Champion American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Strengthen our Brave Military/Veterans, Safeguard our Elections, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment."

Trump concluded by saying, "Barry Moore is a good friend, fighter, and WINNER, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next United States Senator from Alabama - BARRY WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"

Congressman Moore thanked Trump for the support.

"I am truly honored and thankful to receive the endorsement of President Donald Trump," said Rep. Moore in a statement. "President Trump has always put America first, and I'm proud to have stood with him from the very beginning. With his support, I'm ready to get to work on day one. I'll continue fighting for Alabama values, secure borders, a strong economy, and putting the President's America First agenda into action. Thank you!"

Moore is running in a crowded field. Prior to the endorsement the frontrunner has been Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, but Marshall hasn't really polled at more than 40%. Moore has been somewhere in the next tier pack with rancher and businessman Rodney Walker and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson. Former Tuberville aid Morgan Murphy and Dale Shelton Deas Jr. are also running for the GOP nomination. There have been a lot of undecideds in most poll.

Most political observers think that the endorsement gives Moore a boost, but how big of a boost? Does that mean that the undecideds swing to Moore? Does some of Marshall's support evaporate? A lot can happen between now and the Republican primary vote on May 19.

Whoever wins the GOP primary will still have to face a Democratic opponent in November. Dakarai Larriett, Kyle Sweetser, and Mark S. Wheeler II are the qualified candidates in the Democratic primary.

Senator Tuberville is running for Governor.
