Dakarai Larriett Qualifies for U.S. Senate Race in Alabama as Democrat

MONTGOMERY - Dakarai Larriett officially qualified this week to run for the United States Senate in Alabama as a Democrat, joining a growing field of candidates seeking to challenge Republican dominance in the state's federal delegation.

Larriett's campaign emphasizes economic justice, civil rights, and restoring trust in government institutions. His entry into the race sets the stage for a competitive Democratic primary, with Larriett positioning himself as a voice for working families, rural communities, and young voters across Alabama.

A Platform Focused on Equity and Accountability

Larriett's campaign promises to tackle income inequality, expand access to healthcare, protect voting rights, and invest in education and infrastructure. He has also pledged to support federal protections for reproductive rights and advocate for criminal justice reform.

"We need leadership that listens to everyday Alabamians-not just the wealthy or well-connected," Larriett said in a statement. "This campaign is about building a future where opportunity isn't determined by your ZIP code, your skin color, or your last name."

Grassroots Momentum and Community Engagement

Larriett's campaign strategy centers on grassroots organizing, with plans to visit all 67 counties in Alabama. His team has launched community listening sessions, voter registration drives, and youth outreach initiatives aimed at energizing Democratic turnout in traditionally conservative areas.

"Alabama is ready for change," Larriett said. "We're going to meet people where they are-in churches, barber shops, union halls, and college campuses-and remind them that their voice matters."

A Diverse Democratic Field

Larriett joins fellow Democrats Mark Wheeler, Lamont Lavender, and Kyle Sweetser in the 2026 Senate primary. The winner will face the Republican nominee in the general election for the seat currently held by Sen. Tommy Tuberville.

Political observers say the Democratic field reflects a broader effort to reenergize the party in Alabama, where recent cycles have seen competitive races and increased voter engagement.

Looking Ahead

With qualifying complete, Larriett's campaign now shifts into full gear ahead of the Democratic primary. His message of equity, accountability, and grassroots empowerment will be tested as candidates begin to debate, travel, and connect with voters across the state.

"Alabama deserves a senator who works for the people-not the powerful," Larriett said. "I'm running to be that senator."
