UAB Falls 82–69 to South Florida as Bulls' Hot Shooting Proves Too Much

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB couldn't keep pace with South Florida's perimeter firepower Thursday night, falling 82–69 at Bartow Arena in an American Athletic Conference matchup that saw the Bulls seize control late in the first half and never look back.

South Florida (12–7, 4–2 AAC) was led by Joseph Pinion, who delivered a standout performance with 23 points, knocking down six three‑pointers and setting the tone early. Pinion scored 13 of his points in the first half, helping the Bulls build a 45–34 halftime lead.

Senior forward Izaiyah Nelson added a double‑double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Josh Omojafo chipped in 15 points and seven boards, giving South Florida a balanced attack that UAB struggled to contain.

UAB (12–8, 3–4 AAC) was led by Daniel Rivera, who posted 14 points and three steals before fouling out late in the second half. Jacob Meyer added 13 points, and Chance Westry contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Evan Chatman anchored the interior with 11 rebounds, but the Blazers' offense never found its rhythm.

The Blazers shot just 29.3% from the field and 16% from three‑point range, a stark contrast to South Florida's 43.1% overall and 39.4% from deep. The Bulls also capitalized on key scoring runs, including an 8–0 burst early in the second half that pushed the lead to 17. UAB mounted a brief rally to cut the deficit to 11, but South Florida maintained control down the stretch.

The loss snaps UAB's momentum as they look ahead to a road matchup at UTSA on Wednesday. With conference play tightening, the Blazers will need to regroup quickly to stay competitive in the AAC race.
