Dozens of Republican candidates have qualified for public office already

January 15, 2026 – MONTGOMERY – Candidate qualifying for the 2026 election is well underway and the Republican Party has had dozens of candidates qualify for office. The GOP holds both Senate seats, five of the seven congressional seats, all the constitutional statewide offices, all of the appellate judgeships, and supermajorities in both Houses of the Alabama Legislature. Holding on to that power requires good candidates who are willing to put the work in raising money and meeting with people on the campaign trail. The Alabama Republican Party hopes that they get that level of participation in the election process in the 2026 field.

Here are the Republican candidates as of press time – qualifying has not closed yet and is an ongoing process:

Candidate qualifying for both major parties will continue through January 23 at 5:00 p.m.

The Republican and Democratic primaries will be on May 19, 2026. In officers where more than one Republican qualifies there will have to be a primary election. In officers with just one Republican candidate that candidate automatically advances to the general election. There are no write-in candidate options in party primaries.
