Election Security Update: Secretary of State Wes Allen Releases County List of Illegal Noncitizen Registrations and Votes

January 12,2026 - Montgomery - Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen has released new details regarding the discovery of noncitizens who were illegally registered to vote - and in some cases, illegally cast ballots - in Alabama elections. The announcement follows last week's disclosure that 186 noncitizens had been identified on the state's voter rolls, including 25 individuals who had voted in past elections.

On Monday, Allen's office published a county‑by‑county breakdown showing where the illegal registrations occurred and where ballots were cast. The full list is available on the Secretary of State's website.

Allen emphasized that the findings stem from a coordinated effort with federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. His office used the federal SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) database to verify individuals who were not U.S. citizens but had nonetheless registered to vote.

"I have been clear that our elections should be decided by American citizens and only American citizens," Allen said in a statement. "Through a cooperative effort with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, my office used the federal SAVE database to identify the names of people who are not American citizens but who registered to vote and, in some cases, cast ballots in our elections. I will not tolerate this."

Allen confirmed that the cases will be referred to local, state, and federal law enforcement for review and any actions deemed appropriate under Alabama and federal law.

Wes Allen, Alabama's 54th Secretary of State, serves as the state's Chief Elections Official and oversees more than 1,000 statutory duties, ranging from election administration to business filings and public records.
