Iranian regime uses brute force against protestors

January 14, 2026 – What started with a bank failure and a currency collapse – in an already terrible Iranian economy – has become a mass demonstrations protesting joblessness, water shortages, inflation, and decades of political and cultural repression. The protests have rocked the Iranian regime to its very core. Iran's Ayotollahs rule with a level of totalitarian control that few regimes in world history can match and there response to protests has only been more violence and repression.

The regime has ordered its security forces -including the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)and Iran's national police (FARAJA)- to use brutal force to end the civil unrest. They reportedly have used rifles and military‑grade weapons, shotguns loaded with metal pellets, tear gas, water cannons, as well as beatings and physical force.

These tactics have been used against largely peaceful demonstrators.

At least 27–28 protesters and bystanders, including children, were killed between December 31, 2025, and January 3, 2026. Iran has since shut down the internet to keep news from getting out of the country – already one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists.

President Donald J. Trump (R) warned Iranian cleric and dictator Ayatollah Ali Khamenei not to kill the protestors or the U.S. would intervene.

Khamenei ignored the warning and has begun killing protestors.

According to one report by the opposition, 492 Iranians have been murdered by the regime and another 10.600 have been seized by authorities, including minors as young as 14.

Detainees of the Iranian regime face the prospect of: torture, enforced disappearances, risk of ill‑treatment, and the confiscation of bodies of those killed, to prevent funerals from becoming protests.

Security forces have raided hospitals, including Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ilam, to arrest injured protesters and seize bodies-an intimidation tactic seen in past uprisings.

Officials, including the Ayatollah have labeled protesters as "rioters" and signaled that harsher measures are justified.

"There is no use in talking to rioters; rioters must be put in their place," Khamenei said in a nationally televised address.

The crackdown resembles the 2022 "Woman, Life, Freedom" uprising, but with even faster escalation and more coordinated nationwide force.

Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi (who has been living in exile since 1979) assured protesters that American help was coming. He also urged Iran's soldiers to abandon the failed regime and join the opposition.

"My compatriots," Pahlavi said on X. "By now, you have probably heard the message from the President of the United States. Help is on the way. Continue the fight, as you have done so far."

Pahlavi warned that those who perpetuate violence on behalf of the clerics' regime will be prosecuted.

Pahlavi told the military:

"But I also have a special message for members of the Army," he concluded. "You are the national military of Iran, not the military of the Islamic Republic. You have a duty to protect the lives of your compatriots. You do not have much time. Join them as soon as possible."

The State Department has told U.S. citizens to immediately leave Iran.

"US citizens should leave Iran now. Consider departing Iran by land to Turkiye or Armenia, if safe to do so," the notice said.

On Tuesday, President Trump posted on Truth Socia, "Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING - TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price. I have cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOPS. HELP IS ON ITS WAY. MIGA!!! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP"
