SAN ANTONIO, Texas - January 28, 2026 - The UAB men's basketball team returned to form Wednesday night, earning a gritty 83–73 victory over UTSA at the Convocation Center. After dropping back-to-back home games to Tulsa and South Florida, the Blazers showed renewed energy and focus, led by a breakout performance from sophomore guard Daniel Rivera, who poured in 17 points and anchored the offense during key stretches.
First Half: Fast Start, Tight Finish
UAB came out aggressive, pushing the pace and attacking the rim early. Rivera and KyeRon Lindsay-Martin combined for 18 first-half points, helping the Blazers build a 10-point lead midway through the period. UTSA responded with a late surge, fueled by guard Christian Tucker, who hit back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to 39–36 at halftime.
Despite the Roadrunners' momentum, UAB held firm, controlling the glass and limiting second-chance opportunities. The Blazers' bench also contributed, with Tyler Bertram knocking down a pair of timely jumpers to keep UTSA at bay.
Second Half: Rivera Takes Over
The second half belonged to Rivera. The Birmingham native scored 11 of his 17 points after the break, including a crucial three-pointer and a driving layup that extended UAB's lead to double digits with under six minutes to play. His poise and shot selection helped the Blazers maintain control as UTSA tried to rally.
UAB's defense tightened in the final minutes, forcing turnovers and contesting shots. Lindsay-Martin added a late dunk and a pair of free throws to seal the win, finishing with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
