UAB Outlasts North Texas 72–68 in Hard‑Fought Road Battle

DENTON, Texas - UAB men's basketball earned a significant American Athletic Conference win Saturday night, defeating North Texas 72–68 at the Super Pit in a game defined by toughness, timely scoring, and a late second‑half surge.

Westry Leads the Way

Sophomore guard Chance Westry delivered one of his most efficient performances of the season, scoring 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including several key baskets that halted North Texas runs. His poise in the lane and ability to finish through contact gave UAB a steady offensive anchor throughout the night.

Balanced Blazers Attack

UAB's offense found rhythm in the second half thanks to contributions across the lineup:

- KyeRon Lindsay posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double, controlling the glass and providing second‑chance opportunities.

- Dayjaun Anderson added 13 points, including multiple momentum‑shifting threes after halftime.

- The Blazers shot an efficient 9-of-11 inside the arc during key stretches, helping them erase a four‑point deficit with a decisive 7–0 run midway through the second half.

That run flipped the game, giving UAB a 61–58 lead with just over six minutes remaining-an advantage they never surrendered.

North Texas Pushes Back

North Texas (12–10, 3–6 AAC) kept the pressure on behind a standout performance from Je'Shawn Stevenson, who scored 21 points and hit several deep threes to keep the Mean Green within striking distance.

David Terrell Jr. added 17 points and five assists, repeatedly attacking the rim and forcing UAB to adjust defensively.

But despite the Mean Green's late pushes, UAB's defensive rotations tightened in the final minutes, limiting North Texas to contested jumpers and preventing second‑chance scoring.

Halftime Deficit, Strong Finish

UAB trailed 37–34 at halftime after a cold stretch from the perimeter, but the Blazers responded with improved ball movement and interior scoring after the break. Their 38-point second half showcased both efficiency and composure in a tough road environment.

What the Win Means

The victory moves UAB to 14–8 overall and 5–4 in AAC play, keeping the Blazers firmly in the hunt in a tightly packed conference race. The road win also marks another step forward for a team that has shown flashes of high‑level potential but has been searching for consistency.

With multiple players contributing and the defense delivering in crunch time, Saturday's performance may prove to be a turning point as UAB enters the heart of league play.
