Rodney Walker Praises Trump's New Farm Security Initiative, Calls Farmland Protection a National Security Priority

February 11, 2026 – Delta, Ala. - Conservative businessman Rodney Walker, the only cattle farmer and rancher running for the U.S. Senate in Alabama, offered a forceful endorsement Wednesday of the newly implemented 2026 Farm Security Initiative, calling it a long‑overdue step to protect American farmland from foreign adversaries.

Walker, who has made agricultural security a central theme of his campaign, said the policy aligns directly with the warnings he has issued for months about foreign ownership of Alabama's agricultural and timber lands.

"Farm security is national security," Walker said. "Before we even launched our campaign, we have been sounding the alarm about the growing threat of foreign ownership of Alabama's agricultural and timber lands."

Walker also praised President Donald Trump, U.S. Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville, and Congressman Dale Strong for championing the issue and pushing for stronger protections on land, mineral rights, and food production.

According to publicly available data, an estimated 2.19 million acres of Alabama agricultural and timberland are owned by foreign entities - the fourth‑highest total in the nation. Much of that acreage sits atop crude oil and natural gas reserves in Covington, Crenshaw, Conecuh, and Escambia counties.

Walker has repeatedly argued that foreign acquisition of farmland and mineral resources threatens both economic independence and food security.

"If we allow our agricultural land and minerals to be gobbled up by foreign adversaries, we risk losing the ability to feed ourselves," Walker said. "Agriculture must be recognized and treated as a national security issue."

What the 2026 Farm Security Initiative Does

The new federal policy, which takes effect today, includes several major actions:

- Blocking foreign adversaries from purchasing U.S. farmland

- Reviewing and potentially reversing past land sales to foreign adversaries

- Expanding oversight through the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS)

- Increasing USDA enforcement authority

- Conducting nationwide land‑ownership audits

- Implementing new disclosure requirements

- Elevating farmland and food production to the same national‑security tier as energy, defense supply chains, and biodefense

Walker said the initiative also addresses long‑standing concerns about foreign entities acquiring agricultural land located over valuable oil and mineral reserves.

"Americans need to know if foreign countries, companies, or citizens own our farmland or the facilities where it is processed," Walker said. "The leadership on this issue by President Trump and Alabama's Senators Britt and Tuberville and Rep. Strong will help ensure that the food we feed our families is raised, harvested, and delivered safely and securely."

He emphasized that food production and distribution - regulated by agencies such as the USDA and FDA - must remain under strong American oversight.

"Even though I am not yet your United States Senator, no one has fought harder to protect our lands, resources, and food supply," Walker said. "As your next U.S. Senator, I will never lose sight of my responsibility to protect you, your family, and the food you put on your table."
