Pete Buttigieg to Join Mayor Randall Woodfin for Birmingham Town Hall on Monday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg will join Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin on Monday for a community town hall at the historic Carver Theatre. The event, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on March 9, will serve as a public listening session where residents can ask questions and engage directly with city leadership. Admission is free, though reservations are required, and doors will open at 10:30 a.m. for attendees.

The town hall continues Buttigieg's ongoing engagement with Birmingham. During his tenure in the Biden administration, he visited the city multiple times to highlight federal investments in local infrastructure. These included more than $21.6 million in funding for improvements in the Civil Rights District and support for redesigning Fourth Avenue North to improve safety and restore a stronger sense of community.

Organizers describe the event as a community listening session, bringing together residents, advocates, students, and local leaders for a forward‑looking conversation about issues shaping Birmingham's future. Topics are expected to include economic opportunity, infrastructure, neighborhood priorities, and broader community concerns.

The gathering is hosted in partnership with Blueprint Alabama, which encourages civic participation and dialogue across the state. The Carver Theatre-an important cultural landmark in Birmingham's Civil Rights history-will serve as the backdrop for the discussion.
