TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, Ala. - Saturday, March 28, 2026 - Horseshoe Bend National Military Park will welcome families, history enthusiasts, and visitors from across Alabama for the 212th Anniversary of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, a free, day‑long event honoring one of the most pivotal moments in American and Muscogee (Creek) history.
The commemoration will take place Saturday, March 28, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the park's Visitor Center and surrounding grounds. This year's program blends historical interpretation with cultural education, offering a rare opportunity to experience life as it was in 1814.
Living History Comes to Life
Throughout the day, guests can explore a wide range of interactive living history demonstrations depicting both traditional Muscogee Creek life and American frontier life during the early 19th century. Skilled interpreters will present demonstrations multiple times, allowing visitors to engage at their own pace.
The event also marks a meaningful return of leaders from the Muscogee (Creek) Nation to their ancestral homeland. Their presence highlights the cultural impact of the battle and provides visitors with a deeper understanding of the people whose history is rooted in this land.
Hands‑On Activities for Children and Families
Young visitors will have the chance to:
• Play a traditional stickball game
• Create their own handmade pottery
• Complete the official Junior Ranger booklet and earn a badge
These activities are designed to make history accessible, memorable, and fun for children of all ages.
Community Support and Hospitality
Refreshments will be available throughout the day, provided by the New Site Volunteer Fire Department, adding a local touch of hospitality to the event.
Free and Open to the Public
Admission to the anniversary commemoration is free, and all are invited to attend. Whether you're a history buff, a family looking for a meaningful weekend outing, or someone interested in Alabama's cultural heritage, the event offers a rich and engaging experience.
