John Wahl Responds to Claims From Wes Allen Campaign Regarding Interfaith Event Attendance

March 24, 2026 - ATHENS, Ala. - Alabama Lieutenant Governor candidate John Wahl issued a public statement today pushing back against allegations from the campaign of Wes Allen, which claimed Wahl had participated in a celebration of the Muslim holiday of Ramadan.

Wahl called the accusation "false" and said the event he attended was an interfaith community gathering, not a religious observance. According to Wahl, the invitation came from local officials and community leaders, and numerous elected officials and candidates were present.

"This is nothing more than a desperate attempt by the Allen campaign to deceive voters," Wahl said in his statement.

Wahl emphasized that his purpose in attending the event was to speak about his own Christian faith and the values that guide his public service. He described himself as a committed Christian and said he views engagement with people of different backgrounds as consistent with his beliefs.

"I will never hesitate to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ-anywhere, with anyone," Wahl said, adding that Scripture calls Christians to be "the light of the world and the salt of the earth."

He rejected the suggestion that his attendance signaled support for Ramadan or Muslim religious practices, calling the claim "ridiculous" and inconsistent with his record.

Wahl also criticized what he characterized as an attempt to use his faith as a political weapon. He referenced biblical examples of Jesus engaging with people outside his own religious community, arguing that outreach is a core part of Christian teaching.

"He went to the well to speak to the Samaritan woman, He entered the homes of the rejected, and He commanded us to go into all the world," Wahl said.

The Allen campaign has not yet issued additional comment in response to Wahl's statement.
