The people's voice of reason

Nicole Jones Wadsworth visits record-breaking 65th Annual Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo to hear from constituents

March 28, 2026 - OPP, Ala. - Participation in the Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo from March 27-29, 2026 offered a valuable opportunity to spend time with the people who are the backbone of South Alabama and the Wiregrass. The longstanding event continues to showcase the best of our communities and brings together families, local businesses, and visitors from across the region in a way that highlights our traditions as well as economic potential.

Throughout the weekend, I had the chance to hear directly from Alabamians about the issues that matter most in their daily lives. Conversations consistently focused on employment, access to opportunity, infrastructure, and the need for reliable internet service. These are practical concerns that impact whether communities can grow and whether families can succeed. Addressing them requires experience in building businesses, communities, job creation, and understanding what drives economic growth.

The rodeo itself demonstrates what is possible when we invest in tourism and support local enterprise. A record crowd gathered for Trace Adkins' performance on Saturday, and the momentum continued with Neal McCoy on Sunday. Events like the Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo draw visitors, generate revenue for small businesses, and facilitate an environment for vendors and entrepreneurs to succeed.

Many small businesses and vendors make the annual rodeo in Covington County a success. Their presence reflects the strength of Alabama's economy and the role that entrepreneurship plays in sustaining our communities. When these businesses grow, so do the towns they serve.

As Lieutenant Governor, I will advance policies that strengthen local economies and support small businesses across Alabama. Efforts include promoting events that attract visitors who spend money in our cities and towns, workforce training in all 67 counties, along with support for infrastructure investments that drive growth and improve quality of life. Such priorities remain essential to economic development and help position rural communities to compete in a modern economy.

The Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo is a clear example of the opportunities available to our state when we focus on economic growth, tourism, the success of small businesses, and the people we serve. Together, we can Build a Better Alabama.
