Hampton Harris remains a candidate in District 2 Congressional election

May 12, 2026 - LOWNDESBORO, Ala. - This morning Montgomery area attorney and real estate broker Hampton Harris (R) woke up as the Republican nominee for the Second Congressional District. By lunchtime Governor Kay Ivey (R) had declared that CD2 (along with CD1, 6, and 7) would have a new primary on August 11 and opening up qualifying this week for all four districts which are reverting to the map the Legislature passed in 2023 rather than the Congressional Districting map that a court appointed special master drew to guarantee that District 2 would fall to the Democratic Party.

The Alabama Gazette phoned Harris and he wanted to assure voters that he was staying in the race and would be requalifying for the CD2 race with the Alabama Republican Party next week when qualifying opens.

Harris in a statement said that he is continuing his campaign for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District.

"I was the only one willing to run when It was tough," said Harris reaffirmed his commitment to the race for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District following the latest developments in the state's redistricting process.

CD2 was President Donald J. Trump's (R) strongest voting district in the entire United States, until a group of Democrats and civil rights groups conspired to steal the CD2 seat using the federal courts to strongarm the state into turning CD2 a majority minority district.

"When this district was drawn to favor Democrats and the path looked uphill, I was the only one willing to step up and challenge the incumbent," said Harris. "While others sat on the sidelines, I got to work knocking doors across District 2, listening to families, small business owners, farmers, and veterans, and fighting every day for the conservative values that built Alabama. That hard work did not depend on favorable maps, and it will not stop now that the lines have improved."

Harris ran in 2024 and again in 2026 even though he knew the deck was stacked against the state by a federal appeals court in Atlanta. Harris said that this show his message of unwavering commitment.

"I was the only one in this race when it was hard and no one else wanted the fight," said Harris. "I am still here working just as hard today. And I will always be there for the people of District 2. This race is about commitment, not convenience. I stood up when Democrats had the edge. I am fighting now. And I will keep fighting every single day because the people who answered the call when it mattered are the ones who will get the job done for Alabama."

Hampton Harris called the redistricting outcome a significant victory for Alabama and President Trump's America First agenda.

"This is a big win for Alabama and for President Trump's America First movement," Harris stated. "These maps strengthen our ability to send bold conservatives to Washington who will secure the border, lower costs for working families, support our agriculture community, grow good paying jobs, and defend the freedoms that make this country exceptional. I am proud to carry that fight forward."

Hampton Harris further stated, "I invite every patriot across the Bible Belt to stand with me in this fight, the same fight where I was the only one strong enough to stand when Democrats assaulted this district. Join the campaign, help save the heartbeat of conservative Alabama, and together we will secure the future of this great country as we head toward victory."

Hampton Harris is a small business owner and attorney. Hampton and his wife, Abbigale, who is a Captain and a JAG officer in the US Air Force, reside in Lowndesboro.

Harris pledged that he will be a conservative fighter if elected to Congress and that he will bring Christian values and common-sense solutions back to Washington. A lifelong Alabamian, he is committed to economic growth, strong borders, and putting District 2 first.
