June 1, 2026 – BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Former Republican candidate for Governor Ken McFeeters informed the Alabama Gazette that the Alabama Republican Party told him that the party's candidate committee (generally just the 21-member Steering Committee) will consider his challenge to Senator Tommy Tuberville's (R-Alabama) eligibility to be the party's nominee for Governor.
Tuberville recently won the Alabama Republican primary with 421,754 votes (85%). McFeeters came in second with 47,166 (9.56%). "Alabama" Will Santivasci rounded out the Republican field with 24,456 (4.96%).
Despite the widely expected Tuberville landslide, McFeeters has formally challenged the GOP nomination of Tommy Tuberville, arguing the senator does not meet Alabama's constitutional residency requirements to serve as governor. McFeeters argues that Tuberville does not live in Auburn, but actually lives in his mansion at Santa Rosa, Florida. McFeeters is asking the Alabama Republican Party to declare Tuberville ineligible and void his nomination.
McFeeters said that the candidates' committee will hear the challenge at Balch & Bingham's offices in downtown Birmingham on either June 13 or 14.
The Alabama Gazette asked McFeeters what does he want the Steering Committee to do if they find in his favor and voids Tuberville's candidacy.
"I want them to make the second-place finisher – me – the nominee,' McFeeters replied.
McFeeters said that ALGOP has promised to give him more details on his challenge within hours.
If the candidates committee leaves Senator Tuberville on the ballot as the GOP nominee, Tuberville will face former Senator Doug Jones (the Democratic nominee) on the November 3 general election ballot.
