Democratic primary results from May 19

On May 19 Alabama Democrats went to the polls to select their candidates for the November 3 general election. The big winner was former Senator Doug Jones who bested a half dozen prominent Democrats in his bid to be the Democratic nominee for Governor of Alabama.

Jones had 286,612 votes. That's 78.6 percent of the votes cast in the Democratic primary for Governor. Will Boyd had 35,267 votes (9.67%), Jamel J. Brown 15,808 (4.34%), Yolanda Rochelle Flowers 18,230 (5%), Chad "Chig" Martin 5,765 (1.58%), and Nathan "Nate" Mathis 2,953 (0.81%).

State Representative Phillip Ensler won the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor with 196,586 votes (57.63%). Darryl D. Perryman had 144,512 votes (42.37%).

For United States Senator Dakarai Larriett is in a June 16 runoff with Everett Wess. Wess finished first with 134,608 votes (39.57%). Larriett had 99,033 votes (29.11%). Kyle Sweetser had 47,332 votes (13.91%) and Mark S. Wheeler II 59,241 (17.41%).

For Public Service Commissioner Place 1 James O. Gordon won with 187,983 votes (57.77%). John Northrop had 49,924 votes (15.34%). Jeff Ramsey had 87,510 votes (26.89%).

In the race for U.S. House of Representatives District 4 Amanda N. Pusczek won with 9,642 votes (62.81%. Shane Weaver had 5,709 votes (37.19%). Pusczek will face Congressman Robert Aderholt in the general election.

In the race for U.S. House of Representatives District 5 Candice Dollar Duvieilh will be in a primary runoff with Andrew Snead. Snead received 19,271 votes (42%). Duvieilh had 16,345 votes (35.65%). Jeremy Devito had 10,238 votes (22.33%).

As of press time, the special primary elections on August 11 have been blocked by the federal court.

The primary runoff elections will be on Tuesday, June 16.

The general election will be on Tuesday, November 3.
