May 26, 2026 - MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Former University of Alabama head football coach Gene Stallings, one of the most respected figures in Crimson Tide history, announced Tuesday that he is endorsing Wes Allen in the Republican runoff for Lieutenant Governor.
Stallings, who led Alabama from 1990 to 1996 and coached the Tide to the 1992 national championship, said his support for Allen is rooted in decades of personal connection and trust.
"Wes Allen played WR for me at Alabama and I have stayed in touch with him in the decades since," Stallings said. "Wes Allen is a fine, Christian, honest man who has proven himself to be a leader who gets results for the people of Alabama. Wes has my full support and I encourage all of my friends in Alabama to get out on June 16 and vote to elect Wes Allen as Lt. Governor."
Allen, who currently serves as Alabama's Secretary of State, expressed deep appreciation for the endorsement from his former coach.
"There are few people that have made an impact on the lives of as many men as Coach Gene Stallings. He taught me a great deal about discipline, determination and leadership," Allen said. "The faith he has put in me with this endorsement is incredibly meaningful and humbling."
The Republican runoff election for Lieutenant Governor is scheduled for June 16.
