Masked Intruder Smashes Wall, Ransacks Office of Alabama GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Ken McFeeters

June 3, 2026 - BESSEMER, Alabama - Police are investigating a highly unusual break-in after a masked intruder used a heavy tool to smash a large hole through an exterior wall and completely ransack the downtown Bessemer insurance office of Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken McFeeters.

The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at PAC Insurance-an independent agency McFeeters has owned and operated for 35 years. According to surveillance footage and store officials, the perpetrator went to extreme lengths to gain entry, utilizing what appeared to be a sledgehammer to bash a 2-by-3-foot hole through the building's solid exterior brick and drywall. Before entering, the suspect also intentionally cut the building's telephone and internet wires, entirely severing the office's external communication lines.

Staff members discovered the destruction when arriving for work later that morning. McFeeters reported that the intruder thoroughly rummaged through his private office, the kitchen, and a secure file room, even ripping a door completely off its hinges.

Strangely, despite the exhaustive search conducted by the intruder, early reports indicate that absolutely nothing was stolen from the property. The severe property damage and severed connections did, however, force the business to lose several critical hours of operation.

"It wasn't a typical normal breaking and entering thing at night, this is something really odd," McFeeters stated, noting the targeted nature of the destruction.

The targeted vandalism comes at an intensely volatile moment for McFeeters' political campaign. He is currently embroiled in a high-profile legal challenge aimed at voiding the nomination of his primary Republican rival, Senator Tommy Tuberville. McFeeters' pending lawsuit contends that Tuberville fails to meet the state's constitutional requirement of living in Alabama for seven continuous years prior to running for governor, alleging that the senator spends most of his non-Washington time at a residence in Florida.

The Alabama Republican Party is scheduled to hold a final hearing on the residency challenge later this month.

When questioned about whether he believes the aggressive break-in was politically motivated, McFeeters admitted that the timing is suspicious but stopped short of pointing fingers at his primary opponent.

"People are upset that I am challenging his residency and they think it shouldn't be challenged, so I would hope not, but it could be some crazy person," McFeeters said in an interview with WBRC News. "I would not accuse or suspect Tommy Tuberville of doing this."

The Bessemer Police Department is currently reviewing store security footage to identify the masked suspect. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
