June 13, 2026 – HOOVER, Ala. – The John Wahl campaign for Lieutenant Governor received a boost when country music superstar Lee Greenwood performed for free for John Wahl supporters. Greenwood has had dozens of hits in his 65+ yearlong performing career; but his 'God Bless the USA' song has achieved music immortality.
Greenwood open with, "Dixie Road" and followed that up with his musical version of "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America."
Steve McClinton – a Hoover City Councilman – urged voters to go to the polls and vote on Tuesday.
"Do not take any election for granted," said McClinton.
U.S. Army Major (Retired) Pat Bishop introduced Wahl.
"John is a man who wants to take us back to common sense," said Major Bishop. "We have men in the state of Alabama and the United States of America that do not want to work."
"I served 26 years in our military mostly in special operations," continued Bishop. "Some men are born leaders like John. Some men are born that know that Jesus Christ is the Lord – John knows that."
Wahl has been criticized recently by some Republican state legislators for his plan to cut the Alabama income tax.
"John wants to not just give money away but lower taxes so you will have more money in your pockets," said Bishop. "Good people have lost elections in the runoff because people did not show up in the runoff . John is a man of God, who believes in your rights. He wants to work for you."
Bishop was a candidate for Lieutenant Governor in the May 19th primary. He has since endorsed Wahl.
"I have a strong dislike for being called a politician," said Wahl. "I want to be called a statesman because we have too many career politicians in Montgomery and Washington."
"We need fighters who will change things for the people," said Wah. "I am a farm boy. I grew up on my father's farm in Limestone County. I am first and foremost a Christian and a follower of Jesus Christ. Our nation was founded as a Christian nation. We should not back a," way from that. We should not apologize for that. We should embrace that."
"There is a battle between Republicans and Democrats and between conservatives and liberals but there is more than that this is a battle between slavery and freedom and between right and wrong," said Wahl. "I am not going to back down to the Democrats or the Rinos."
Wahl responded to the attacks he has received for his advocacy for cutting (and eventually eliminating) Alabama's five percent state income tax.
"If I am going to be attacked in the last week of the campaign let it for fighting to lower taxes on the people of Alabama," said Wahl.
"It is an honor to be supported by Lee Greenwood," said Wahl. "He is an American patriot."
It was Greenwood's wife's birthday. In her honor he sang: "I owe you" in her honor.
"We have been married for 34 years and we are now grandparents," said Greenwood. "She still looks like what she was then – a Miss Tennessee."
"I am originally from California," said Greenwood. "Don't worry about that I don't go back there anymore."
"If the Pledge of Allegiance bothers you then that is too damn bad," said Greenwood.
Greenwood said that he had to fly back to D.C. that night to sing at the UFC fight at the White House celebrating President Trump's birthday.
"I will be in Washington for the UFC fight at the White House," said Greenwood. "I would like to wish a Happy birthday for President Trump and I will be there on America's birthday."
"I started singing at age 12 at the Baptist Church," said Greenwood. "I spent 20 years in Nevada got my country music career started and moved to Tennessee.'
"I have 36 albums," said Greenwood. "I have toured with Reba McIntyre, Barbara Mandrell."
Greenwood said that many performers have backed out of performing at the nation's 250th birthday on July 4.
"President Trump has said - I don't need the rest of them I just need Lee Greenwood," said Greenwood.
Greenwood thanked the crowd for coming out for John Wahl and gave a shout out to Alabama Gazette columnist former state Representative Perry O. Hooper Jr.
"Thanks to my good friend Perry Hooper for being here," said Greenwood.
Wahl said, "I wish we had Lee Greenwood for four more hours."
Greenwood concluded the event with his iconic, "God Bless the USA."
President Trump has endorsed John Wahl.
Wahl faces Secretary of State Wes Allen in the Republican primary runoff on Tuesday.
Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 pm.
Voters need to bring a valid photo ID with them to participate in any Alabama election. Voters who voted in the Democratic primary cannot vote in the Republican primary runoff and vice versa.
