June 13, 2026 – Voters go to the polls on Tuesday for the Republican and Democratic Party primary runoffs. Secretary of State Wes Allen (R) is seeking the Republican nomination to be Alabama's next Lieutenant Governor. To that end, Allen was in Vestavia Hills on Saturday to speak to the Mid-Alabama Republican Club (MARC).
"In February of 2025 I started on this journey to be your next Lieutenant Governor," said Allen.
Allen thanked MARC for having him as a speaker.
"Nothing can replace retail politics," said Allen. "Telling why we are the best candidate for the job we are seeking."
Allen has been the probate judge for Pike County, served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2018 to 2022. Since 2023 he has been Alabama's Secetary of State.
As probate judge Allen took a strong stance against same-sex marriage.
"I wasn't going to sign those (gay marriage) licenses," said Allen. "I didn't know if federal Marshalls were coming after us."
In the House of Representatives, Allen was the sponsor of legislation to protect Alabama children from gender mutilation surgery, puberty blockers, and hormone treatments designed to make a child appear as a gender other than the one they were assigned at birth.
Allen said that he was committed to passing legislation to prohibit surgeries and other treatments, "That mutilate kids."
"We passed that bill and got it across the finish line in April of 2022," said Allen. "We were the second state in the union to get that across the finish line. It is now the law of the land."
Allen said as Secretary of State he has fought for legislation to prohibit ballot harvesting, prohibit ranked choice voting, and other measures to protect Alabama's election integrity.
When the NAACP, the National Redistricting Foundation, and other liberal groups sued Alabama to force the state to create another liberal congressional district as Secretary of State Allen had to defend the state's Congressional map against charges of racism from the left.
In the case of Allen versus Milligan, "We weren't going to step off the gas," said Allen.
Despite years of litigation and setbacks in the courtroom Allen said thatAll he refused to compromise. He was ultimately successful this summer when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Alabama can use its own Congressional map restoring Alabama's regional communities of interest back to their historic norms.
Allen said that his experience has made him the "battle tested" candidate in this race.
"I am prepared - you want someone that is prepared," said Allen. "As a probate judge in the judicial branch, as a state representative in the legislative branch and as your Secretary of State in the Executive branch."
"There is a reason so many people are moving to Alabama," said Allen. "And that is our conservative Christian culture."
Allen promised to, "Work hard in a way that makes you proud."
Allen said that when Alabama and Auburn look for a head coach they want someone with experiecen.
"They are looking for experience. They are not looking for some kid that plays Madden football in his momma's basement."
If the Governor dies, is incapacitated, resigns, or is convicted of a major crime during his or her term in office the Lieutenant Governor becomes the Governor and the Senate Pro Tempore becomes the President of the Senate.
"God forbid that something ever happens to the Governor, but if it does you better have somebody who can step in and fill that role," said Allen. "Elect me on June 16 to be your next Lieutenant Governor to make sure that Alabama is protected to make sure that Alabama is moving forward."
Allen faces former Republican Party Chairman John Wahl in the Republican primary on Tuesday, June 16.
Remember that if you voted in the Democratic primary on May 19 you cannot vote in the Republican primary runoff. Alabama has open primaries so Republican primary voters and registered voters who did not participate in either primary can vote in Tuesday's runoff.
The Mid-Alabama Republican Club meets on the second Saturday of each month in the Vestavia Hills Civic Center. Kimberly Cook is the President of MARC.
