HOOVER, Ala. – The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) applauds today's U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding state laws that protect girls' and women's sports by limiting participation based on biological sex. The ruling affirms that states have the authority to enact these protections, including laws similar to those already in place in Alabama.
"This is a victory for common sense, fairness, and the integrity of women's sports," said ALGOP Chairman Scott Stadthagen. "Alabama has been leading on these issues for years, and today's decision confirms that states have the authority to protect opportunities for women and girls."
As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives, Chairman Stadthagen sponsored HB 391 which protects girls' and women's sports by requiring participation in K-12 school athletics to be based on biological sex. Signed into law in 2021, the legislation made Alabama a national leader on the issue. Today's Supreme Court decision reinforces the authority of states to enact and defend laws like ours.
