Rhett Marques says that he will lead the charge to ban unlimited birthright citizenship

July 2, 2026 - ENTERPRISE, Ala. – The U.S. Supreme Court in a 6 to 3 ruling voted to overturn President Donald J. Trump's (R) controversial executive order ending birthright citizenship for the children of immigrants (both legally in the country and illegally). Second Congressional District candidate Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise) joined President Trump's disappointment at the majority's ruling.

In response Marques called for even more deportations of criminal illegal aliens following this week's United States Supreme Court ruling on birthright citizenship. Marques also announced his commitment to leading the charge for President Trump in Congress to end unlimited birthright citizenship.

"The Supreme Court decision on birthright citizenship presents a crisis for our nation that we must address quickly and strongly," Marques said. "Birthright citizenship should only be reserved for children born to a legal United States citizen. Unlimited birthright citizenship and pregnancy tourism act as magnets incentivizing the type of mass migration that has led to devastating loss of American lives and prosperity. In Congress, I will introduce whatever legislative fix President Trump determines is the long-term solution to right this wrong."

Marques said until Congress acts, the solution is even more Trump-led deportations of illegal aliens.

"President Trump has delivered the greatest border security and deportation effort in history, and we need more of it," Marques continued. "The answer is simple: double down on enforcement, deport every criminal illegal alien, and keep putting Americans first. We have to stand up to the radical left socialists and communists who are trying to destroy America through open borders and handing out citizenship recklessly."

Marques is a member of the Alabama House of Representatives. Earlier this year, he sponsored controversial legislation in the Alabama House requiring candidates for Alabama's constitutional offices to be natural-born United States citizens.

That measure failed facing bipartisan opposition.

Marques said the bill would have prevent radicals like Zohran Mamdani who he said openly hates America and want to dismantle our way of life from holding Alabama's highest offices.

"I've fought these battles in Alabama, and I'll keep fighting them in Washington," Marques concluded. "I'll stand with President Trump to put America First, secure our nation's interior, and defend the value of American citizenship."

Marques is one of six candidates seeking the Republican nomination for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District.

Marques is a businessman and legislator. His campaign said that he has dedicated his life to serving his Community. "As your next Congressman, he will fight tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Champion our Farmers and American Agriculture, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Advance Election Integrity, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment."

President Trump has endorsed Marques.

Marques faces five opponents in the Republican primary election will be held on August 11, 2026. He faces Montgomery area attorney Hampton Harris, David Mathews, Chris Horn, and Joshua McKee in the primary.

The winner will then face incumbent Congressman Shomari Figures in the November 3 general election.
