The World Cup is in the United States and the U.S. team has played surprisingly well thus far in the tournament winning their group to advance to the knockout round of the tournament.
The U.S. beat Paraguay 4 – 1 and then beat Australia 2 – 0. They lost to Turkey 3 – 2, but had already won the group so were playing mostly backups in that third game. The U.S.'s overachieving in the first three games has raised expectations.
Soccer is not a sport that Americans are particularly good at. In the last World Cup (2022), the USA was 1 – 1 versus Wales, 0 – 0 versus England, 1 – 0 against Iran, and was finally eliminated in a 1 – 3 loss to the Netherlands in the first knockout round. There are more teams in this World Cup, but already the U.S. has improved on its lackluster 1 win (Iran), 2 draws (Wales, England) and 1 loss (Netherlands with an exit in the Round of 16 performance last time.
This Round of 32 matchup pits the United States against Bosnia and Herzegovina, marks a crucial stage in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. If the U.S. wins and advances to the Round of 16, American fans will be ecstatic.
The head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team is Gregg Berhalter. Thus far the team leaders have been Forward Folarin Balogun who has 2 goals in 2 games, Alex Freeman who has 1 goal and 1 assist playing in all three matches, and Sebastian Berhalter who hs 1 goal and 1 assist while playing in all three matches.
