State Representative Rhett Marques voted to raise your taxes while failing to pay his. Documents given to the Alabama Political Contributor yesterday revealed a serious concern relating to Representative Marques paying his taxes. We are not talking about small amounts of money here; these represent substantial financial sums accrued through multiple years of liens.
Tax liens were filed against his properties across the years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, and 2011. These liabilities accumulated through both federal and state filings with the following amounts:
Federal Tax Liens:
Eight thousand, twenty-six dollars and eighty-four cents ($8,026.84), which was released in January 2006.
Thirteen thousand, two hundred twenty-six dollars ($13,226.00), which was released in April 2006.
Thirty-eight thousand, four hundred sixty-four dollars and eighty-nine cents ($38,464.89), which was released in February 2007.
Twenty thousand, ninety-seven dollars and twenty-eight cents ($20,097.28), which was released in August 2011.
One thousand, seven hundred eighty-eight dollars and nineteen cents ($1,788.19), which was released in August 2011.
Four thousand, two hundred four dollars and thirteen cents ($4,204.13), which was released in October 2011.
Eight thousand, nine hundred twenty-two dollars and fifty-eight cents ($8,922.58), which was released in September 2011.
State Tax Liens:
Seven hundred forty-nine dollars and ninety-six cents ($749.96), which was released in April 2007.
Eight thousand, three hundred thirty-nine dollars and ninety-one cents ($8,339.91), which was released in July 2007.
Six hundred eighty-four dollars and forty-one cents ($684.41), which was released in December 2016.
Despite these liens ultimately being cleared up over time, this extensive history raises serious questions about his character and integrity if he feels that he is above the law when it comes to paying taxes.
