Alabama Christian Conservative PAC Is Not Affiliated With the Christian Coalition of Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Many of our members have received a text political ad stating that the Alabama Christian Conservative PAC is being confused with the Christian Coalition of Alabama.

The PAC is registered in Austin Texas and operated out of McLean VA They have no presence in Alabama. That PAC is making statements about Hampton Harris that are patently false and intentionally confusing voters.

BACKGROUND

Alabama Christian Conservatives is a political action committee. Any group that raises or spends mo e than $1,000 to influence a federal election is required by federal law to register with the Federal Election Commission and to report publicly where its money comes from and where it goes.

Alabama Christian Conservatives is registered with the Commission as committee C00782656, an independent-expenditure-only committee - commonly called a super PAC. Committees of that kind may accept contributions of unlimited size, but they may not give money to candidates and may not coordinate their spending with them. That is the reason their advertising carries the line stating who paid for it and that it is not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee.

Those reports are public and anyone may read them at fec.gov. They are also filed on a schedule Spending of this kind in the final weeks before an election must be reported within twenty-four hours of the communication being distributed, which means the money behind a message sent the night

before an election is ordinarily not on the public record until after the votes are cast. The Christian Coalition of Alabama files no such reports and has no such committee, because it is not a political action committee and does not spend money to elect or defeat candidates.
