Bessemer Municipal elections are today

August 25, 2026 – BESSEMER, Ala. – Bessemer voters go to the polls today to elect their mayor, city council, and board of education.

Incumbent Mayor Kenneth E. Gulley faces three challengers: Louise Alexander, Darral Lerone Bethel, and Brenita Lewis.

City Council – Dist. 1

Jarvis Collier – the Incumbent – is being challenged by Michael Knight.

City Council – Dist. 2

Incumbent Chester W. Porter – the Incumbent – was unopposed.

City Council- Dist. 3

Incumbent Sarah B. Person faces Cynthia Donald.

City Council-Dist. 4

Incumbent Donna Thigpen faces Rhonda Brantley.

City Council – Dist. 5

Incumbent Teco Stephens faces Kelvin Eades.

City Council-Dist. 6

Incumbent Carla Jackson faces Tonia Miller, Lakia Reeves, and Valerie M. Williams.

City Council – Dist. 7

Incumbent Cleophus King faces Howard Acoff Jr., and Silas Baldwin.

Bessemer has an elected school board.

School Board – Dist. 1

Elaine Holifield and David Vance are running for the open seat.

School Board – Dist. 2

Incumbent Terry Dawson faces Remeka Little.

School Board – Dist. 3

Tasha Wynn- Scott was unopposed.

Shool Board – Dist. 4

Incumbent Samuel Vaughn Morris was unopposed.

School Board – Dist. 5

Incumbent Margie Varner faces Omar Chapman, Geortez K. Jackson, Fanchon Muhammad Jerri Lynn Scott, and Kermilia Whitehead

School Board – Dist. 6

Darryl Vashon Aikerson, Grover Dunn, Gail Brown Harris, William Lewis, and Monterrius Antonio Lowe are all running for the open seat.

School Board – Dist. 7

Incumbent Lee Jones faces Carolyn Hudson Wilson.

Polls close at 7:00 p.m. Voters should bring a valid photo ID to the polls in order to participate in any Alabama election.
