Shannon Whitt Departs Chief of Staff Role at Alabama Republican Party

August 31, 2026 – HOOVER, Ala. - The Alabama Republican Party confirmed today to the Alabama Gazette that Shannon Whitt has stepped down from her position as Chief of Staff.

The Alabama Gazette was told that Whitt left to pursue a new career in ministry alongside her husband working with UniteUS ministry. It is a ministry run by Chad and Tanya Prewett. Chad is a former assistant basketball coach at Auburn University.

Whitt has played a critical role within ALGOP operations for years in internal management, major event coordination, and strategic planning. She oversaw the transition from John Wahl's chairmanship to Joan Reynolds interim chairmanship, and finally to Rep. Scott Stadthagen who has been chairman for the last five months.

Whitt's departure comes just 64 days before the critical November 3 election cycle where Republicans hope to pick up a congressional seat in CD2. GOP has held every statewide elected position in Alabama since 2012 and supermajorities in both houses of the Alabama Legislature. That dominance faces stiff challenges from a rejuvenated Alabama Democratic Party led by former U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-Alabama) who is running for Governor and new Democratic Party Chairman state Senator Bobby Singleton.

Whitt is widely respected within Alabama Republican circles and replacing her quiet, effective day to day leadership will be a challenge for Stadthagen as he leads the party into the election that will shape the state of Alabama for the next four years and could potentially play a role in which party controls Congress during President Trump's last two years in office.
