By the time this article is published we hope Wetumpka will be selected as the newest designated Main Street Alabama City. This program is designed to bring jobs, dollars and people back to historic communities. The focus to bring vitality and boost economic development in our downtown district will benefit our local businesses, continue to enhance the quality of life and increase the tax base which increases the services provided by the City. This will not be a City run program but a program operated under the non-profit Downtown Wetumpka. The City will be a supporter as well as the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses but once we are accepted it will operate under Downtown Wetumpka. We feel this program, along with the upcoming streetscape project, is exactly what we need to bring energy back to downtown Wetumpka. Only three communities are selected every year and we feel Wetumpka is the perfect fit.

Another key to success will be everyone working together. One business can certainly benefit off another. If one business is drawing the people downtown, the others have an opportunity to capitalize as well. With that being said I invite everyone to visit our beautiful downtown community. Not only does it offer great views, you can also find delicious food and plenty of retail therapy.
