Democratic qualifying For House District 52 began April 1

The Alabama Democratic Party announced last week that candidate qualifying for House district 52 would begin on Monday, April 1.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey (R) announced that a special election would be set for Alabama House District 52. This seat was previously held by Rep, John Rogers, (D-Birmingham) whose resignation was effective March 13, 2024. Rogers was the longest serving member of the House when he resigned. The U.S. Attorney's office is prosecuting this case..

The special primary election is set for Tuesday, June 18, 2024; the special primary runoff, if necessary, will be on Tuesday, July 16, 2024; and the special general election is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

The deadline for qualifying with major political parties will be Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. The deadline for all independent candidates and/or minor parties is Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
