The people's voice of reason
On Friday, Commissioner Sheila Tyson and the Community Services Department joined Brighton Mayor Eddie Cooper and Brighton City Councilors for the groundbreaking of a new storm shelter that is funded by the Jefferson County Commission. The Commission allocates roughly $1-million dollars a year to storm shelter construction. Other locations in development this year are Tarrant (under construction), Birmingport (awaiting contract) and Irondale (looking for location). There are currently 38 storm shelters in Jefferson County and they are listed on the Jefferson County EMA website.
