Constitution Day Resolution, Led by Congressman Robert B. Aderholt, Introduced in House of Representatives

September 17, 2024 - WASHINGTON – Congressman Robert B. Aderholt (R-AL), along with his fellow co-chairs of the Congressional America250 Caucus, Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), and Dwight Evans (D-PA), introduced a bi-partisan resolution today, with more than fifty original co-sponsors, recognizing and expressing support for Constitution Day.

Congressman Robet B. Aderholt (R-AL) released the following statement:

"It is an honor to introduce this resolution alongside my fellow co-chairs." said Congressman Robert B. Aderholt (AL-04), "The Constitution is a beacon of hope for so many around the world who look toward the United States as a land of opportunity. As we celebrate America's upcoming 250th anniversary, let us take a moment to remind ourselves of the freedoms our founding document safeguards and how we can always work to ensure we are upholding these freedoms for every citizen within the United States. Our nation is strong because our Constitution is strong, and it works."

Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) said the following:

"As both a Representative and a citizen of the great state of New Jersey, the third state to ratify the Constitution and the first to ratify the Bill of Rights, it's an honor to help introduce this resolution supporting and celebrating Constitution Day," said Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12). "The framers of the Constitution had both the ingenuity to craft such a profoundly democratic document and the foresight to include a process to reform and update it as our country grew and progress. In this way the United States Constitution is the longest surviving written charter of government in the world. It has inspired freedom seeking people at home and abroad. As we approach the nation's 250th Anniversary in 2026, we should all take time to reflect on our blessings and examine how we can all make the United States a 'more perfect union.'"

Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (R-FL):

"2026 will mark the 250th anniversary of our America's founding. As we commemorate what makes our nation great, we are reminded of the bedrock of our republic: the Constitution," said Rep. Salazar. "September 17th – Constitution Day – is a moment to celebrate what makes America the city on the hill that so many around the world look to as an example."

Congressman Dwight Evans (D-PA):

"I'm happy to co-sponsor this Constitution Day resolution as a proud representative of Philadelphia, birthplace of the Constitution, where Benjamin Franklin memorably said we have 'a republic, if you can keep it.'"
