Mobile NAACP condemns comments by Sheriff says they "Could Incite Violence"

June 12, 2025 – MOBILE, AL – The "No Kings" protest movement in support of the L.A. protests are coming to Mobile. The Mobile Branch of the NAACP announced that it is deeply concerned about recent statements made by Mobile County Sheriff Burch (R), which, they claim if taken out of context, have the potential to incite violence within our communities.

Mobile has had over 200 murders since 2020.

Sheriff Burch remarked, "I wish we could put them all in an arena and let them kill the hell out of each other; that will solve the problem."

Mobile Branch President R.E. Clopton Sr. released a statement denouncing Burch's statement.

"Such rhetoric does not address the root causes of violent crime but instead risks escalating tensions," the Mobile NAACP said in a statement. "While frustration over crime is understandable, real solutions require thoughtful engagement-not calls for fatal confrontations."

The NAACP also responded to the Sheriff's warning that if the protests in Mobile turn violent that there could be broken hands and deadly force used by law enforcement.

"The "No Kings" protests in Mobile have been peaceful, yet his inflammatory rhetoric undermines the constitutional right to protest and threatens to turn nonviolent gatherings into dangerous confrontations," the NAACP continued. "His claim that drivers who plow into crowds blocking the interstate would not face criminal charges echoes tragic events like Charlottesville, Virginia-sending a troubling message that could encourage reckless acts."

Sheriff Burch has since walked back some of his comments and has said that he is not encouraging anyone to run over any protestors.

"The citizens of Mobile deserve leadership that fosters safety and constructive dialogue. Sheriff Burch, we share your concern over rising violence-especially gun violence-but inciting further harm is unacceptable," the NAACP stated. "We urge law enforcement to focus on community-driven solutions and to uphold their duty to protect and serve all residents with integrity and respect."

Mass protests are expected in Mobile and in cities across America as the left is showing its displeasure with President Donald J. Trump (R) on his birthday. Saturday is also the 250th birthday celebration for the U.S. Army.
