RAINBOW CITY, AL - Amy Minton, a longtime Republican activist and community leader, has officially launched her campaign for Alabama Senate District 10, setting up a competitive primary against incumbent Senator Andrew Jones (R-Centre) and fellow challenger Jesse Battles. The district includes Etowah, Cherokee, and parts of DeKalb counties.
Minton, currently Vice Chair of the Etowah County Republican Party and a member of the Alabama Republican Party's Executive Committee, brings a deep resume of civic involvement to the race. She also serves on the Etowah County Library Board and was appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the Alabama Public Library Services Board in 2024.
🔧 Platform Built on Faith, Family, and Fiscal Conservatism
In her campaign announcement, Minton emphasized a platform rooted in traditional conservative principles. Her stated priorities include defending the Second Amendment, opposing gambling expansion, supporting small businesses and farmers, and improving education-particularly trade schools and literacy programs.
"I believe my experience working and serving in various leadership roles has given me the tools and contacts to get things accomplished for District 10," Minton said. She also pledged to fight against "gender ideology and indoctrination of our children," aligning herself with recent cultural debates over education and public library content.
🇺🇸 Personal Story Shapes Political Vision
Minton's personal background plays a central role in her campaign narrative. A retired pharmaceutical sales agent and mother of two, she credits her family's military service and her own experience surviving a home intrusion for her strong support of gun rights.
"My love and commitment to the veteran community is the result of many generations of my family's unselfish and sacrificial military service," she said, noting her husband's service as a U.S. Marine and her family's ties to Delta Force, the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Reserve units.
She also highlighted her work with faith-based addiction recovery programs and her church involvement at Meadowbrook Church in Gadsden as key influences on her public service ethos.
🗳 A Crowded Republican Field
Minton joins a growing field of Republican contenders for the District 10 seat. Incumbent Andrew Jones, who chairs the Senate Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee, has already raised over $91,000 and holds more than $317,000 in campaign funds. Jesse Battles, a former staffer for the Alabama Secretary of State, is also seeking the nomination.
The Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026, and is expected to be one of the more closely watched legislative contests in the state.
