Cindy Myrex narrowly misses victory in HD12 Special Republican Primary

July 15,2025 – CULLMAN, AL – Republican voters in Cullman County went to the polls today in the Special Republican Primary in Alabama House District 12. Cindy Myrex came within a handful of votes of winning the four candidate primary outright

Instead it appears in unofficial results that she will face Clint Hollingsworth in a special Republican primary runoff election.

Heather Doyle received 150 votes - 3.51%. Hollingsworth had 1,848 votes - 43.24%. Dan McWhorter received 147 votes - 3.44%. Cindy Myrex got 2,090 votes - 49.81%. These results are preliminary results available as of press time – assuming 100% of the votes have been counted.

If the preliminary results hold, Clint Hollingsworth and Cindy Myrex will advance to the Special Runoff Election. This is only a preliminary count. There will be counting of provisional ballots on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Provisional ballots are when a voter appears at the polls that is not on the list for that voting precinct so they are allowed to vote provisionally. The Board of Registrars are then tasked with determining that voter's eligibility. If that voter is found as having been a registered voter who simply went to the wrong polling place and is in District 12 their vote will count. If they were not registered as a voter in HD12 that vote will not county.

The eventual Republican nominee will still have to fact Democrat Matt Glover in the special general election on October 28.

Alabama Republican Party Director of Legislative Affairs & Communications Jeannie Burniston released a statement Tuesday evening:

"We want to thank all the candidates for a well-run race and their dedication to public service. It is a significant sacrifice to serve, and we respect everyone who wishes to contribute to making our communities a better place," said Burniston. "House District 12 is a solidly Republican seat-President Donald J. Trump won nearly 90% of the vote in Cullman County-and the Alabama Republican Party is committed to keeping it in conservative hands. We look forward to working with the eventual winner to protect our shared values."

If a special runoff election is needed, it will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
