July 29, 2025 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has joined a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers in reintroducing the College Transparency Act (CTA), a bill designed to provide students and families with clearer, more comprehensive data as they navigate the complex landscape of higher education and student loans.
The legislation, spearheaded by Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), aims to modernize the federal postsecondary reporting system by offering detailed insights into student outcomes-including enrollment, graduation rates, and post-college earnings-across institutions and academic programs. Senator Tuberville, who also cosponsored the bill in the 118th Congress, emphasized the importance of empowering students with reliable information before they commit to costly tuition and housing expenses.
"After spending 40 years in education, I know first-hand how hard it can be to navigate the ins and outs of a college education," Tuberville said. "We want to empower our students to make the decision that's best for them... I'll keep fighting to put our students and parents first."
As Chairman of the Senate HELP Subcommittee on Education and the American Family, Tuberville has made higher education reform a central focus of his legislative agenda.
Building on Reform Momentum
Senator Cassidy praised the CTA as a natural extension of the "One Big Beautiful Bill," which previously enacted sweeping reforms to reduce college costs and expand access to quality education.
"The College Transparency Act builds on that success by empowering students and families with information to make the best college decision so they can succeed," Cassidy said.
The bill has garnered support from a wide array of lawmakers, including Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Katie Britt (R-AL), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Raphael Warnock (D-GA), among others. Companion legislation has been introduced in the House by Representatives Mike Kelly (R-PA-16) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08).
Broad Coalition of Support
The CTA has earned endorsements from more than 40 organizations spanning education, workforce development, and business advocacy. Supporters include the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, American Association of Community Colleges, Institute for Higher Education Policy, Hispanic Resource Center, and Young Invincibles.
These groups argue that the bill will not only help students make informed decisions but also assist colleges, policymakers, and employers in improving educational outcomes and workforce alignment.
Protecting Privacy While Promoting Clarity
A key feature of the CTA is its commitment to protecting student privacy. The legislation mandates secure handling of individual data while enabling aggregate reporting that can guide prospective students toward programs with strong career prospects and return on investment.
By standardizing and expanding access to outcome data, the CTA seeks to eliminate guesswork and misinformation in the college selection process-an issue that has long plagued students and families facing life-altering financial decisions.
