August 5, 2025 – MONTGOMERY, AL - In a unanimous decision, the Alabama Republican State Executive Committee has passed a resolution urging all Republican elected officials in the state to formally nominate former President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
The resolution, sponsored by former Alabama State Representative and conservative leader Perry O Hooper Jr., underscores Trump's pivotal role in diffusing two major international crises in 2025. According to the committee, Trump's diplomatic efforts were instrumental in brokering ceasefire agreements between India and Pakistan in May, and Iran and Israel in June-both recognized as moments when the world stood on the brink of war.
"President Trump didn't just talk about peace-he delivered it," said Hooper. "He brought adversaries to the table and held them accountable. That's what true leadership looks like, and it's exactly what the Nobel Peace Prize was created to honor."
The committee's resolution details Trump's approach of "maximum-pressure diplomacy," which it says was crucial in negotiating the Iran–Israel ceasefire on June 24, 2025. This agreement forced both parties into a phased stand-down, monitored by the United States, and averted what could have been a catastrophic conflict in the Middle East.
Additionally, the India–Pakistan truce of May 10, 2025, is cited as another example of Trump's effective mediation. The ceasefire halted a rapidly escalating border conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors and led to renewed diplomatic talks under American guidance.
The resolution also highlights Trump's continued role in international peacebuilding, including:
• A ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand in July 2025, credited with preventing a broader regional conflict. Cambodia has since announced its intention to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
• A landmark peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda on June 27, 2025, ending months of hostilities and paving the way for greater economic cooperation in central Africa.
• A U.S.–Houthi ceasefire in Yemen, which was effective from May 6 to July 7, 2025, halting attacks in the Red Sea region without conceding to terrorist demands.
"President Trump proved that peace through strength isn't just a slogan-it's a strategy that works," said John Wahl, Alabama Republican Party Chairman. "This is a moment for all leaders who claim to value peace to act boldly and make their support known."
A certified copy of the resolution will be sent to all Republican elected officials in Alabama, President Trump's political team, and the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
The initiative is supported by Patriots First Alabama, a Montgomery-based grassroots organization advocating for constitutional principles and America First policies. The group expressed its pride in the Alabama GOP's move, calling it a stand for "common sense, national sovereignty, and peace through strength."
