August 26, 2025 - Cullman and Blount Counties, AL. - Voters in portions of Cullman and Blount Counties cast their ballots Tuesday in the Special General Election for Alabama House District 11, selecting a new representative to fill the seat vacated earlier this year by Randall Shedd.

Unofficial Results

• Heath Allbright (R): 2,783 votes

• Alex Braswell (D): 351 votes

• Write-In: 15 votes

With the election now concluded, Heath Allbright will serve as the new State Representative for Alabama House District 11, representing constituents across key portions of Cullman and Blount Counties.

"Thank you, District 11!" said Allbright. "I am deeply honored by the trust voters in District 11 have placed in me. I'm ready to fight for our families, schools, and businesses, ensuring our community thrives while preserving the values that make Blount and Cullman Counties home."

ALGOP Statement

Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl praised Allbright's victory in a public statement Tuesday evening:

"I want to congratulate Heath Allbright on his strong victory tonight. Heath has proven himself to be a conservative leader, a man of faith, and a fighter for Alabama families. I know he will bring that same dedication to the State House as he works to defend our freedoms, protect our values, and ensure that the voices of the people are always put first. The voters of House District 11 chose well, and I look forward to working alongside Heath to keep Alabama strong."

Background on the Vacancy

The HD11 seat became vacant earlier this year when Randall Shedd, who had served the district since 2013, accepted a position on the staff of Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger. Shedd's departure triggered the special election process, culminating in Tuesday's vote.

Looking Ahead

Allbright's win reinforces Republican strength in the region and brings a new voice to Montgomery as the legislature prepares for its next session. His campaign emphasized support for small businesses, public safety, and conservative values-issues that resonated strongly with voters across the district. This follows a recent special election in Walker County where the Republican similarly crushed their Democratic opponent. The shockingly poor performances of the Democratic candidates is a bad signal for Democrats who hope to find electoral success in 2026 outside of t majority minority districts.

The Alabama Secretary of State's office is expected to certify the results in the coming days.
