Tuberville Introduces Judicial Nominees for the State of Alabama

September 3, 2025 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) introduced Trump judicial nominees Edmund LaCour, Hal Mooty, and Bill Lewis, at their confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sen. Tuberville recently joined Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) in recommending these three individuals to President Trump to serve as federal district court judges in the State of Alabama.

Tuberville has been highly critical of left aligned federal judges abuse their lifetime appointments to obstruct President Trump's agenda.

"We need our justice system to focus on upholding the Constitution, not pushing an agenda."

All three nominees were nominated by President Donald J. Trump (R) to serve on federal courts in Alabama.

"I want to begin by thanking President Trump for selecting these exceptional candidates. I really enjoyed working with Senator Britt on this important task," said Sen. Tuberville. "We need our justice system to focus on upholding the Constitution, not pushing an agenda. And I'm confident that these three gentlemen will respect the rule of law and will be impartial in all their interactions on the bench. It is my honor and privilege to introduce these three individuals who have been nominated to serve as federal district court judges in the great state of Alabama."

Edmund LaCour has been nominated for the Northern District of Alabama (Tuscaloosa).

"Edmund Lacour is currently the Solicitor General of the State of Alabama," said Sen. Tuberville. "Before assuming this role, he served as Deputy Solicitor General. Prior to that, he worked in private practice here in Washington, D. C. Edmund was previously nominated to be the U.S. District Judge by President Trump at the end of his first administration, but this nomination was later withdrawn by President Biden. A native of Dothan, Alabama, Edmund attended Birmingham-Southern College for undergraduate degree and Yale Law School for his J. D."

Hal Mooty has been nominated for the Northern District of Alabama (Huntsville).

"Hal Mooty is a partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, LLP in Huntsville, Alabama, specializing in business and commercial litigation," said Tuberville. "He has served as the president of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association's Young Lawyers Section and previously served on the Young Lawyers Executive Committee to the Alabama State Bar. Hal is originally from Montgomery, Alabama and went to both undergraduate and law school at the University of Alabama."

Trump has nominated Alabama Supreme Court Justice Bill Lewis (R) to serve on the bench in the Middle District of Alabama.

"Bill Lewis is a Justice on the Alabama Supreme Court," said Tuberville. "Prior to being [appointed] to this role, he served as a Judge on the Alabama Court of [Civil] Appeals, and earlier, he was the Presiding Circuit Judge on the 19th Judicial Circuit. Before his judicial service began, Bill was in private practice in Wetumpka, Alabama. He is a lifelong Alabama resident, having grown up in Wetumpka. Bill attended the University of the South for his undergraduate degree and Cumberland [School of Law] in Birmingham for [his] J.D."

Tuberville welcomed the three judicial nominees to the Judiciary Committee and urged that the committee confirm all three.

"Welcome to all these nominees and their families, which is quite a few, by the way," continued Tuberville. "So, thank you to the Committee for this opportunity, and I urge swift confirmation of these outstanding nominees. Thank you, Mr. Chairman."

Traditionally after about six months all of the non-controversial nominees by an administration are confirmed in a batch vote. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) fears a primary challenge from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-New York) so is scared to appear to not be suitably standing up to Trump so is slow rolling all of the Trump nominations. Senate Republicans are considering a controversial rule change that will allow them to confirm Trump's judges, ambassadors, and other administration officials rapidly without this continuing to drag out into 2026.

Senator Tuberville is not seeking re-election. Instead he seeks to be the next Governor of Alabama. Gov. Kay Ivey (R) is term limited.

The Republican primary is May 19, 2026.
