Greg Barnes wins HD13 Special Primary Election

September 30, 2025 – JASPER, AL - Republican voters in Walker County went to the polls on Tuesday to choose their representation in the Alabama House District 13 Special Primary Election and they elected Greg Barnes over Dustin Beaty.

According to the unofficial results Greg Barnes received 2500 votes (69.2 percent) while Dustin Beaty finished with 1113 votes (30.8%).

The seat became vacant earlier this summer when former Representative Matt Woods (R) was elected to represent Alabama Senate District 5. SD5 became vacant when Sen. Greg Reed quit to takeover the Department of Workforce for Governor Kay Ivey (R).

Greg Barnes is the Republican nominee for Alabama House District 13.

"I feel fantastic," Barnes told reporters. "A 70 percent win. I mean. I feel really good."

Barnes is a retired contractor from Curry.

His campaign emphasized mental health, veterans issues, and his :Christian worldview."

Alabama Republican Party Chief of Staff Shannon Whitt released the following statement:

"We are excited to congratulate Greg Barnes on winning the Republican nomination for House District 13. Walker County voters sent a clear message today: they are ready for strong conservative leadership that reflects their values. With no Democrat opposition in November, Greg is on the path to becoming our newest State Representative, and we look forward to working alongside them to keep Alabama moving forward."

A special general Election is scheduled to be held on January 13, 2026; but Barnes has no opposition it is likely that the Secretary of State will waive the January special election and Barnes be sworn in after the vote.
