Tuberville Leads Push to Recognize "Religious Education Week" in October

October 1, 2025 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) is leading a national effort to spotlight the role of faith-based education in American life. On Wednesday, Tuberville and 26 Republican colleagues introduced a resolution designating October 5–11, 2025, as "Religious Education Week", honoring the schools, churches, and organizations that provide religious instruction to students across the country.

As Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Subcommittee on Education and the American Family, Tuberville emphasized his commitment to school choice and parental control in education.

"As Republicans, we believe that parents, not the government, should be in charge of a child's education," Tuberville said. "Our country was rooted in Judeo-Christian values, and private religious schools are a great option for many Alabamians."

Tuberville also challenged common interpretations of the Founding Fathers' views on religion in public life:

"There's a myth out there that our Founders wanted to keep God out of the public square. That just isn't true. This country was built on love of God, love of country, and love of family."

Alabama's Role in a National Coalition

Joining Tuberville in cosponsoring the resolution were fellow Alabama Senator Katie Britt, along with prominent GOP senators including John Barrasso (WY), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Ted Budd (NC), Tom Cotton (AR), Lindsey Graham (SC), and Tim Scott (SC).

This marks the third consecutive year Tuberville has supported the resolution, reinforcing his stance on religious liberty and educational diversity.

Endorsements from Faith-Based Organizations

The resolution has received endorsements from a broad coalition of religious and educational groups, including:

• Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty

• Agudath Israel of America

• Coalition for Jewish Values

• Foundation for American Christian Education

• School Time Bible Ministries

• Association of Christian Schools International

• Catholic Education Partners Inc.

Outreach Implications for Alabama

For Alabama families, churches, and private schools, Religious Education Week offers a chance to celebrate their contributions to moral and academic development. The resolution may also energize local efforts to expand school choice, defend religious liberty, and promote faith-based curricula.

Educators and community leaders interested in participating can organize events, share student success stories, or highlight the historical role of religious education in Alabama's development.
