December 5, 225 - BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Yesterday, the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) was formally recognized at the Alabama State Capitol as Governor Kay Ivey issued a proclamation honoring the agency as part of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) distinguished 2024 APTA awards.
BJCTA was selected for this national recognition in 2024 year for its leadership in innovation, community partnerships, service improvements, and organizational performance. The Governor's proclamation highlights BJCTA's ongoing commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and equitable public transportation for residents across Jefferson County.
"We are honored to receive this recognition from Governor Ivey," said Charlotte Shaw, Executive Director & CEO of BJCTA. "This proclamation reflects the dedication and hard work of our operators, maintenance staff, frontline employees, administrative teams, and Board of Directors. During yesterday's ceremony at the Capitol, members of BJCTA leadership and staff joined Governor Ivey as she presented the proclamation acknowledging the agency's accomplishments and statewide impact. The recognition also underscores the critical role public transportation plays in supporting economic growth, workforce mobility, and quality of life in Alabama.
