TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, Ala. - Robert McCollum, Republican candidate for Tallapoosa County Commissioner in District 4, is making road maintenance and right‑of‑way upkeep central themes of his campaign, arguing that consistent attention to basic infrastructure is essential for safety and quality of life.
McCollum said county roads play a vital role in daily life, connecting families to work, school, and emergency services. Neglecting those roads, he warned, creates avoidable hazards.
"Our county roads are not just lines on a map - they're how our families get to work, how our kids get to school, and how emergency services reach people in need," McCollum said. "When roads and rights-of-way are neglected, it affects safety, visibility, drainage, and the overall quality of life for our residents."
He pointed to overgrown rights‑of‑way as a particular concern, noting that limited visibility at intersections and curves can lead to dangerous driving conditions. Poor drainage and delayed repairs, he added, can also cause long‑term damage that becomes more expensive to fix.
"As commissioner, I will advocate for a proactive maintenance approach," McCollum said. "That means regular mowing, clearing, and upkeep of rights-of-way, along with responsible road maintenance that addresses problems before they become expensive repairs."
McCollum framed preventive maintenance as both a safety measure and a fiscally responsible strategy, saying taxpayers benefit when the county addresses issues early rather than waiting for major failures.
"Our residents deserve safe, well-maintained roads and clean rights-of-way," he said. "I am committed to listening to the people of District 4 and working to ensure our infrastructure is maintained properly and consistently."
McCollum, a Republican, is running on a platform focused on practical solutions, fiscal responsibility, and responsive local government as he seeks the District 4 seat on the Tallapoosa County Commission.
