Independent Governor candidate Stacy George says that bad law enforcement officers should be removed – is drafting legislation to address "Bullies with Badges"

February 6, 2026 – MONTGOMERY – Stacy George is an independent who is running for Governor. He is a former county commissioner and former Department of Corrections officer who had a prominent role in the Academy Award nominated documentary – 'The Alabama Solution' made for HBO.

George has taken a very hardline stance against what he calls: "bullies with badges" – law enforcement who are prone to use violence – sometimes with deadly results.

To that end, he is in the process of drafting legislation to hold officers who use deadly force accountable.

"I come to you today with a heavy heart. What I say next will be unpopular. It is not what people want to hear but it is what people need to hear," George said in a statement. "Over 3 years ago, I participated in a documentary about Alabama prisons called The Alabama Solution. About 2 weeks ago, the Lord woke me up basically stating that I cannot be silent anymore as people blindly support every single law enforcement officer regardless ofwhat they do. For the last 2 nights, I have not slept. The Lord woke me up this morning on an unpopular mission about justice. In the movie, my most prominent scenes include a bully with a badge is not acceptable according to the bible I read. We must address bullies with a badge in the prisons and in the streets. One bully (bad apple) can cause a whole town to be burned down to the ground if not prosecuted properly. The 11th commandment in law enforcement appears to be: do not prosecute the bad apples in law enforcement instead cover it up and defend them at all costs. It ends today with me.

George told the Alabama Gazette that he favors recent legislation that allows for the execution of anyone who rapes a child under the age of 12.

George says that it is also a capital crime, under the current law that the murder of a law enforcement officer in the line of duty is a capital crime, which he agrees with that, but that a member of law enforcement who murders a member of the public should also be executed.

"If they would take care of the problem and get the bad apples out of there," the problem would get better George told the Alabama Gazette, "We can bo longer continue to protect bullies with a badge."

Georgie ran as a Republican for governor in 2014 and 2022. Both times he lost the Republican primaries to incumbents (Robert Bentley and Kay Ivey).

"I can't beat Tuberville in a Republican Primary," George told the Gazette.

George is convinced that he could draw enough support from independents and disaffected Republicans to be a factor in a general election if he is able to raise enough money to get on the general election ballot – independent candidates need to collect over 22,000 signatures to get access to the statewide ballot.

George worked13 ½ year former for the Alabama Department of Corrections as a correctional officer. During his career he was assigned to Limestone and St. Clair prisons.

'There, I never discharged a weapon in the line of duty," said George, "I never used a baton in the line of duty, and I never discharged saber red spray on anyone. I used good communication skills like Andy Griffith in Mayberry."

George is adamant that some corrections officers and law enforcement officers in Alabama are too quick to use force – including deadly force – in the line of duty and that too often those officers not only are not punished but sometimes are promoted over their peers.

George says that these violent officers are "ave a 22 second clip I can send you through text where I speak about "bullies with a badge."

If George gets enough signatures to obtain ballot access, he would face the Democratic and Republican nominees in the November general election.
