Today is Presidents Day

Honoring the Legacy of U.S. Presidents

February 16, 2025 - Every year, we celebrate President's Day on the third Monday of February. This federal holiday was originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington's birthday. It has since evolved to honor all of the men who have served our nation in it's highest office.

George Washington's birthday was on February 22, 1732. Washington was revered by early generations of Americans as the "Father of His Country,"

Washington played a pivotal role in the French and Indian War, the American Revolution, the drafting of the U.S. Constitution, and he served two terms as the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797. His leadership and vision laid the foundation for the fledgling republic.

In 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was enacted to set more consistent three-day weekends for the nation's workers by moving the celebration of several federal holidays to Mondays. Washington's Birthday was moved from February 22 to the third Monday in February. The name was changed to Presidents Day to acknowledge the contributions of all the U.S. Presidents.

Banks, courthouses, government offices, many schools, and some businesses will be closed today.
