Republican candidate for Congress Case Dixon opposes U.S. strikes on Iran

February 28, 2026 – HOOVER, Ala. – President Donald J. Trump (R) has authorized military strikes on Iran. Congressional candidate Case Dixon announced that he opposes the war with Iran.

"I oppose war with Iran," said Dixon in a statement. "Last summer, the American people were told that Operation Midnight Hammer "Obliterated" Iran's nuclear capabilities and set the program back years. Now we are told we have begun major combat operations because Iran was allegedly a week away from "industrial-grade bomb making materials". The American people deserve a clear explanation of how both of those claims can be reconciled."

Dixon is running against incumbent Congressman Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) in the Sixth Congressional District. Dixon is part of a growing isolationist movement within the Republican Party.

"We were promised an end to forever wars, not another open-ended conflict in the Middle East," said Dixon. "You do not send Americans to die based on shifting narratives and unclear threats. Our sons and daughters are worth more than this."

Most Republicans support the President's actions, but Dixon's sentiments are shared by former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), who resigned recently after losing the support of the President.

"Thousands and thousands of Americans from my generation have been killed and injured in never ending pointless foreign wars and we said no more," Greene said on Saturday. "But we are freeing the Iranian people. Please." "There are 93 million people in Iran, let them liberate themselves. But Iran is on the verge of having nuclear weapons. Yeah sure. It's always a lie and it's always America Last. But it feels like the worst betrayal this time because it comes from the very man and the admin who we all believed was different and said no more."

Dixon claims that President Trump has exceeded his authority by attacking Iran without a declaration of war by the Congress.

"If the United States is initiating war, the Constitution requires Congress to authorize it," Dixon claimed. "No exceptions."

Dixon's statement parallels the views of Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-AL07).

"Iran has oppressed their people and supported terrorism in the region for decades," Sewell said in a statement. "This fact does not change the President's obligations under the Constitution to work with Congress on military actions that put our troops in harm's way and could drag our country into another prolonged war in the Middle East."

Following coordinated U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear‑linked sites. Iran has launched waves of missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military facilities across the Middle East, including bases in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. Several governments report intercepting incoming projectiles, though the full extent of damage or casualties remains unclear.

President Trump has described the operation-dubbed Operation Epic Fury-as a major, ongoing campaign aimed at eliminating what he calls imminent threats from the Iranian regime. U.S. officials say the strikes have included Tomahawk missiles and targeted high‑value Iranian assets, including IRGC facilities and underground sites tied to Iran's nuclear program. The administration has warned the operation could continue for days.

Iran's response has been swift and widespread. State media claim multiple U.S. bases were targeted, and explosions have been reported across the Gulf region. Air travel has been severely disrupted, with major hubs such as Dubai International Airport suspending all flights due to regional airspace closures. Airlines across the Middle East have rerouted or canceled flights as the situation remains highly fluid.

The conflict has also triggered political fallout in Washington, where lawmakers are divided over the strikes and the lack of congressional authorization.

Dixon faces off against Palmer in the Republican primary on May 19.
