New Defense Facility in Muscle Shoals Marks Major Investment in America's Industrial Base

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - March 9, 2026 - A major new defense industrial project is coming to Northwest Alabama, as Congressman Robert Aderholt announced that the U.S. Navy will hold a ribbon‑cutting ceremony for a large‑scale manufacturing facility in Muscle Shoals later this month. The event is currently scheduled for March 20.

The new complex spans 2.2 million square feet, making it one of the largest industrial facilities of its kind in the region. According to the announcement, the site is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the nation's shipbuilding and maritime production capacity.

"This 2.2 million square foot facility will now be a symbol of U.S. defense, anchoring shipbuilding and maritime production in Northwest Alabama. This major investment will be truly transformative for the Shoals area," Congressman Aderholt said in the statement.

Aderholt noted that the project is the result of nearly six years of work to bring new industry to an unused facility in the Shoals. He credited the effort's success to provisions included in what he referred to as the "One Big Beautiful Bill," which secured federal funding to expand maritime production capabilities in Alabama's Fourth Congressional District.

"I'm proud to have secured funding to bring shipbuilding capacity to Alabama's Fourth Congressional District, proving that maritime dominance is not just a coastal priority," he said.

The congressman also emphasized that the Muscle Shoals project represents the beginning of a broader long‑term vision for the region.

"As current events show, America needs sea power more than ever – Alabama is up to the challenge and we will build a 21st century collaborative campus here that no conventional shipyard or industrial park can rival," Aderholt said.

Local officials say the facility is expected to generate thousands of manufacturing jobs and create new economic opportunities throughout Northwest Alabama. Additional details about the ribbon‑cutting ceremony and the types of production that will take place at the site are expected to be released in the coming days.
