Grand Bay NERR to Host Free Feral Hog Trapping Workshop on April 23

April 16, 2026 - MOSS POINT, Miss. - Landowners, conservation professionals, and community members concerned about feral hog damage will have an opportunity to learn effective trapping strategies later this month. The Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) is hosting a free, full‑day Feral Hog Trapping Workshop on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

The workshop will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Grand Bay NERR headquarters, located at 6005 Bayou Heron Road, Moss Point, MS 39562. Registration is free, and lunch will be provided for all participants.

Hands‑On Training for a Growing Problem

Feral hogs continue to cause significant ecological and economic damage across the Gulf Coast, impacting wetlands, agricultural land, wildlife habitat, and private property. The workshop is designed to give attendees practical, science‑based tools to address the issue safely and effectively.

Participants will receive instruction on:

- Identifying feral hog activity and damage

- Understanding hog behavior and movement patterns

- Selecting and setting traps

- Best practices for humane and effective trapping

- Coordinating removal efforts across properties and communities

The event is part of Grand Bay NERR's ongoing outreach and land stewardship mission, supporting both private landowners and natural resource managers.
